Presently the Secretariat of SAFIR is housed within Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, at Chanderlok building, 36, Janpath, New Delhi, India after which the secretariat shall be located at such place as may be decided by the Steering Committee from time to time. All the activities/Administrative function shall be carried out by SAFIR Secretariat housed at CERC.
The Forum was established in May 1999 to assist in the building of regulatory capacity in the electricity, natural gas, telecommunications, water, and transport sectors. The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) was the Host Entity of SAFIR from May 1999-November 2006. During this period, TERI organized 7 core courses and 4 workshops.
SAFIR has a membership of over 40 regulatory agencies, research institutes and regulated companies from the countries of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. SAFIR Secretariat housed at CERC will be responsible for conducting workshops and supporting the marketing and outreach activities of SAFIR.
